It’s been less than two weeks since Trumpocalypse descended upon our nation. If the last 13 days of Trumpocalypse are any sign of what the next 1,438 days will be, we’re in for a long four years.
Though the queer community hasn’t felt the wrath of Trump, there’s great concern that we’re on the hit list. Whether we are or we aren’t, we must prepare to continue our fight for equality. On this Queer Money, we discuss between each other eight ways we can prepare for the possible and possibly probable Trumpocalypse on the queer community.
Fighting Trumpocalypse with Queer Money
The great civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” What will you do?
We don’t yet know how the new administration will help or hinder the queer community. There’s information that suggests that Trumpocalypse will hurt us. There’s also information that suggests our response to Trumpocalypse up until now has been a little of unjustified wailing and gnashing of teeth. We can’t afford to gamble with ambiguity.
A pillar of a strong queer community is financially strong queer individuals. Financial strength gives us the money and time needed to continue our fight for equality. The queer community and our allies must continue to fund the organizations and causes that are working for equality. We must continue to donate our time and presence for our civil rights.
We can’t afford to gamble with debt or financial insecurity. We can’t be distracted by out of control student loans or McMansion-size mortgages for the sake of our financial and personal independence. The stronger we are as individuals, the stronger we are as a community and the better equipped we are to fight for equality. Our personal strength rests on the strength of our queer money.
