Why there is a need for financial education in the LGBTQ community
The National Endowment for Financial Education or NEFE’s recent survey of LGBTQ+ people found that 47% of respondents haven’t had the opportunity to take financial education courses or training anytime, anywhere. What’s behind this lack of financial education among the queer community? And what can we do to get up to speed and turn our financial lives around?
Dr. Billy Hensley is President and CEO of NEFE, a nonprofit committed to advancing effective financial education and promoting financial well-being.
On this episode of Queer Money®, Dr. Hensley joins us to discuss NEFE’s 2022 LGBTQIA+ Experiences with Financial Education and Services Survey and share some of his key takeaways from the study.
Dr. Hensley offers insight into what financial services can do to better serve the queer community, explaining why it’s crucial to tell the story of the LGBTQ+ money experience and how to make financial education more accessible and inclusive. Learn how the queer community can use the NEFE data to advocate for ourselves!
