Hear all about Jonathan & Christopher’s adoption experience:

A queer family in the making

We don’t often host old school friends on Queer Money® from our pre-Debt Free Guys days, but we asked our friends, Jonathan and Christopher, to share their compelling story about how they’re growing their queer family. Jonathan and Christopher met in Orlando ten years ago, moved to Colorado five years ago, and were married four years ago. From the moment they knew they wanted to spend their lives together, they knew they wanted to share their lives with a child.

Jonathan and Christopher share how they lived several years in a studio apartment, took on multiple jobs, bought a house (and clearly a dog), and designed their lives around taking care of their future child. They share how they prepared financially for legal and adoption expenses, including how they structured their accounts and auto-savings for these expenses.

They share great resources, such as their adoption agencies and social works that specialize in LGBT families, to help with the adoption process. They, also, share, how they’ve found grants, including LGBT-adoption-specific grants, to help subsidize their adoption expenses.

Hear all about how they prepared for the adoption process, what the adoption process has been like, and what they would tell other queer people who want to start their own queer family through adoption.
