8. David Auten and John Schneider, also known as the Debt Free Guys, knew they had too much debt when they found themselves renting from a friend because that was all they could afford. As two mid-30s professionals in the financial services industry, they knew they could do better.

“Our friends were buying houses and we were renting a basement,” they said.

As life partners, David and John paid off their debts together, and now teach others to do the same.
